Indians Game Thread (Wednesday): Most starters getting the day off

The Tribes faces off against Seattle this afternoon.

Rob Tringali

The Indians travel to Peoria to face the Mariners in today's Cactus League action. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 ET. The game will not be televised and the only audio available is the Mariners feed, which can be found through MLB.TV.

Non-roster invitee Travis Banwart will start for the Indians. There's more about him in this morning's news and links post, if you're interested. Today is a "bullpen day," meaning all of the other pitchers involved for the Indians will be relievers (whereas every other game has included two candidates for the starting rotation). Scheduled to pitch today are Scott Atchison, Bryan Shaw, David Aardsma, Nick Hagadone, Colt Hynes, Blake Wood, and Austin Adams.

Most of the team's best position players will also get the day off, giving a number of players fighting for a roster spot the chance to face better pitching (James Paxton will start for Seattle, he's been a Top 100 prospect each of the last two winters and should enter 2014 as one of the top candidates for the AL Rookie of the Year Award) and get a few extra innings in.

Today's starting lineup:

1) Elliot Johnson (SS)

2) Ryan Raburn (DH)

3) Jeff Francoeur (RF)

4. Lonnie Chisenhall (3B)

5. Matt Carson (LF)

6. Jesus Aguilar (1B)

7. David Adams (2B)

8. Nyjer Morgan (CF)

9. Matt Treanor (C)

Raburn and Chisenhall are the only names on that list I expect to see on the Opening Day roster, while the other guys may be fighting for the final spot on that roster, or looking to position themselves as the first guy called up should someone struggle or get injured.
