Indians Monday Game Thread: Danny Salazar to make Cactus League debut

The Tribe hosts the Angels in today's Cactus League action.

Lance Iversen-USA TODAY Sports

The Indians host the Angels today at Goodyear Ballpark, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 ET (that's an hour later than last week's game were, but it's when most games will begin for the rest of spring training, with the change caused by Arizona not using Daylight Savings). The game will be televised on STO and on MLB.TV. Audio and the live box score are also available for free through MLB.com.

Danny Salazar will finally make his Cactus League debut, 10-12 days after the other starters on the team made theirs. He is scheduled to throw 2 innings. Salazar has not been nursing any particular injury this spring, but he saw a big jump in his innings in 2013, and the team hopes he can make another jump this year, but has decided to work him back into the mix slowly (he may sit out the first trip through the rotation once the season starts, and be held back til something like the ninth game of the year).

Following Salazar to the mound will be Trevor Bauer, Vinnie Pestano, Blake Wood, Colt Hynes, and Preston Guilme. Bauer will likely be asked to throw 3 innings, and can hopefully have success similar to that he had his last time out, when he recorded 4 strikeouts against 1 walk in 2 shutout innings. The rest of the guys today are slated for 1 inning apiece.

The Angels will be starting Jered Weaver, who will likely pitch 4 or perhaps even 5 innings (he threw 4 in his last outing), giving Tribe starters a couple at bats against a very good pitcher.

Today's starting lineup:

1) Michael Bourn (CF)

2) Nick Swisher (1B)

3) Jason Kipnis (2B)

4) Carlos Santana (3B)

5) Michael Brantley (LF)

6) Mike Aviles (RF)

7) Nyjer Morgan (DH)

8) Erik Gonzalez (SS)

9) Matt Treanor (C)

Also of note, the new replay system will be in use today, the first of five such games the Indians will play between now and Opening Day. We'll see if anything comes of it this afternoon.
