Arizona signed Lourdes Gurriel to a four year deal:
Outfielder Lourdes Gurriel’s deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks is for three years and $42 million with a club option for a fourth season, sources tell me and @kileymcd. The deal also includes an opt-out after the second season.— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) December 17, 2023
I thought Nick on Guardians’ Twitter articulated well the reason Arizona’s activity this offseason stings a bit as a Guardians fan. It’s not that I’m desperate for a Gurriel or an Eduardo Rodriguez signing, it’s just the contrast between how the Diamondbacks are handling this offseason with what Cleveland did (didn’t do?) after 2022:
a team that overachieves on their projected performance, realizes that they have something to build upon, that their timeline has moved up, and is acquiring talent to fill the places where they haven’t developed talent to maximize their current core’s potential. what an idea! https://t.co/9rQL3SDsUL— Nick (@nlck22) December 17, 2023
Mandy Bell published an article with some fun quotes from Austin Hedges, who sounds like he is all about the mentoring Bo Naylor task.
Paul Hoynes answered questions, again, and sounds like he is team “They’ll probably trade Bieber,” joining Mandy Bell and Zack Meisel.
Jose Ramirez and Emmanuel Clase were named to the 2nd Team All-MLB.
