News and Notes: We’ve Got a Game Seven, Folks

News and Notes for Monday, October 23rd, 2023

The Rangers crushed the Astros, 9-2, including a fun grand slam from Adolis Garcia to tie their series at three games a piece. They will play a game seven tonight. Can’t say Max Scherzer starting against Christian Javier makes me feel optimistic about the Rangers’ chances, but I’d hope the hook on Scherzer will be quick.

The Phillies and Diamondbacks will play game six this afternoon, with the Phillies having returned home up 3-2 in the series.

Jose Ramirez will play in the Dominican Winter League, but, I suspect, he will do so on a part-time basis. I know it’s not idea to have your superstar risk injury and log games in the offseason. But, I also am perfectly fine allowing Jose to do something important to him and his home nation. Just hope he’ll try to be extra responsible in how he does it. Heck, I’m going to buy a Leones del Escogido hat and make the best of it.

Speaking of the Dominican Winter League, Juan Brito hit a homer there this weekend:

On Saturday, Kyle Manzardo went 3 for 4 with a double and a homer for the Peoria Javelinas. Ross Carver threw four scoreless, allowing two hits and three walks and striking out four. Eric Sabrowski had another scoreless inning of relief, walking one and striking out three, as did Bradley Hanner who struck out two.
