Triston McKenzie dances with history | cleveland.com

From Paul Hoynes:

Catcher Austin Hedges is supposed to be the veteran. He’s supposed to keep his pitchers focused and serene on the mound and in the dugout.

Sunday he was nervous. Indians rookie Triston McKenzie was dancing with history, a perfect game to be precise, and the dance was nearing its end. That’s end as in two outs in the eighth inning with the Indians on the way to an 11-0 win over the Tigers.

Who was feeling the heat the most, the rookie with 23 big-league starts to his credit? Or Hedges, who is in his fifth big league season?

“We were talking a little bit (between innings),” said Hedges, “but I really didn’t know what to do. Triston was just going about it. He was so chill. So under control. So confident. I loved it.”
