Lucas Giolito, yes that guy, got to face the hapless Pirates last night. And boy did he ever take advantage. The only Pirate who posed any kind of challenge for the offspeed enthusiast was former Indian Erik Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was the lone Pittsburgh baserunner on the night, reaching first base via a walk in the 4th inning. He also hit the hardest baseball of the night, lining a .850 xBA baseball into RF with 2 outs in the 9th. The Sox had him played perfectly, though, sealing a no-hitter for Giolito.
Elsewhere
• The Indians beat Minnesota last night behind the arms of Bieber, Perez, Karinchak and Hand, and just enough offense provided by Ramirez, Lindor and Santana. Stars, starring.
• Mike Clevinger is returning to the team today. Zach Plesac will remain in the alternate camp for now.
• Terry Francona is home recovering. Outlook is “very good” but he needs “a little bit of time.” Doesn’t sound great.
• When you suck, lots of teams want your closer.
