Current Indians general manager Mike Chernoff appears to be in the running for a promotion out East. The Mets would like to interview him for their president of baseball operations opening, but the Indians have not allowed them permission yet.
As Mandy Bell points out in the linked article, Chernoff has ties to the New York area, and the Mets are also interested in acquiring the current shortstop of the Indians.
But Chernoff has some stiff competition for that job, becccccauuuuse...
