The big news of the day Tuesday was Clayton Kershaw’s back injury that led to Tony Gonsolin starting in his place. Kershaw will reportedly pitch game 4 instead.
But for Tribe fans, it was another day of wondering how hateable the offseason is going to be.
Anyways...
Braves 8, Dodgers 7
• Atlanta had a 7-0 lead in this 712-hour game.
• As Atlanta is familiar with, that big lead shrunk.
• Eventually, Mark Melancon put an end to the madness, inducing an AJ Pollock groundout for the 8-7 victory.
• Atlanta now leads this series 2 games to 0.
Rays 5, Astros 2
• A Joey Wendle/Yandy Diaz-infused rally turned a 1-0 Houston lead into a 5-1 Tampa Bay lead in the 6th.
• Back-to-back Rays were hit by pitches in that inning, 4 weeks to the day after the Indians lost in that fashion.
• Keeping with the Wendle/Diaz theme, Michael Brantley homered in the bottom of the 6th. He doesn’t usually hit them to LF.
• Jose Altuve’s case of the yips continued.
• The Rays lead the series 3-0.
