The Cleveland Indians have placed starting pitcher Mike Clevinger on the 10-Day IL with a “right upper back/teres major muscle strain.” The announcement comes on the heels of Clevinger being pulled from his Sunday start due to upper back tightness after five shutout innings.
Nick Wittgren has been called up from Triple-A Columbus to take his place on the roster.
Clevinger was having a red hot start to the season for the Tribe, allowing two hits and no runs over 12 innings pitched and striking out a combined 22 batters.
UPDATE: Well this is worse than we thought.
Regarding Mike Clevinger, Terry Francona says it’ll be 6-8 weeks “before we’re even looking at him picking up a ball.”
