N&N: Paging New Pitchers

Morning N&N for April 24, 2019

MLB: Miami Marlins at Cleveland Indians David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Well, wasn’t yesterday fantastic. The Indians did nothing against the Marlins’ underwhelming pitching staff and Neil Ramirez got spanked by the Miami’s Yelich, Stanton, Ozuna and Realmuto replacements.

Hopefully Ramirez is replaced on the roster soon. He is incapable of pitching scoreless innings. That could happen today, actually, since the bullpen might need to be refreshed after they worked 5 innings in relief of Cookie Carrasco, who left with knee discomfort. Ideally, Carrasco doesn’t need to be placed on the DL to make room for a new reliever.

Francona says “hopefully it’s precautionary” and every person in the replies knows what that usually means.

Another player will also be exiting the roster to make room for today’s starter Jefry Rodriguez. Presumably, this will not be a pitcher, given what we just discussed.

Around baseball

• Nathan Eovaldi had surgery yesterday.

• Bo Bichette has a broken left hand.

• The Twins were outscored by the Astros but eddie Rosario is treating all pitchers as if they have Chief Wahoo on their sleeve.
