Luis Oviedo knocked around to end scoreless innings streak, Luplow saves the day for Columbus

Cleveland Indians minor league recap for April 15, 2019.

Columbus Clippers 4, Louisville Bats 3

Box Score · Clippers improve to 7-4

With the game tied 3-3 in the top of the ninth inning, Jordan Luplow played hero for the Columbus Clippers by earning a bases loaded walk.

Mark Mathias had a great game, going 3-4 with two doubles and two runs scored while Ryan Flaherty went 2-2 with two doubles and three walks. Eric Haase bashed a two-run home run and Oscar Mercado reached base safely twice, going 1-4 with a walk.

Starting pitcher Chih-Wei Hu had a quality start, tossing 6.0 innings while allowing three runs on three hits while striking out six and walking two.

The bullpen was sensational as Brooks Pounders, Jon Edwards and A.J. Cole combined for three scoreless, perfect innings.

Akron RubberDucks 6, Trenton Thunder 8

Box Score · RubberDucks fall to 3-8

A late rally fell short for the RubberDucks, who scored three times in the final two innings.

Daniel Johnson had himself a game, going 3-4 with a pair of doubles, a stolen base and four runs batted in. Wilson Garcia had the other multi-hit game, going 2-4 while Mitch Longo walked three times and Ernie Clement walked twice with a stolen base. Alexandre Pantoja also doubled and walked.

Tanner Tully allowed four runs on eight hits in 6.0 innings while striking out six and walking none. Rob Kaminsky was knocked around for three runs in just 0.2 innings, which kept the game just out of reach.

Lynchburg Hillcats 5, Potomac Nationals 11

Box Score · Hillcats fall to 7-5

Starting pitcher Adam Scott was his own worst enemy, lasting just 1.2 innings while allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out one and walking one. Scott also had two throwing errors in the game.

Reliever Nick Gallagher allowed six runs (three earned) in 2.2 innings to put the game out of reach, although the Hillcats offense did attempt to battle back.

Steven Kwan went 2-4 with a double and a walk, Nolan Jones went 2-3 with two walks and Trenton Brooks went 2-4 with a double. Tyler Friis also went 1-4 with a walk to reach base safely twice.

Lake County Captains 5, Bowling Green Hot Rods 12

Box Score · Captains fall to 7-4

The story of this game was Luis Oviedo, who, after not allowing a run in his first two outings spanning 10.0 innings, was absolutely annihilated on Monday night.

Oviedo lasted just 0.2 innings, allowing six runs (all earned!). The talented Dominican Republic native could not find the strike zone, walking three batters and allowing three hits, including a three-run home run. He was yanked in the first innings after throwing 34 pitches, just 16 of them for strikes.

Zach Draper did a decent job out of the pen, allowing an inherited runner to score, but only giving up one more run over his 3.1 innings of long relief that he likely wasn’t expecting to have to do.. The rest of the bullpen stunk up the joint, allowing another five runs to score over the final three innings.

Offensively, Jose Fermin played well, going 2-4 with a home run and a walk. Will Benson went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. Ruben Cardenas went 1-3 with a walk and catcher Josh Rolette had a pair of walks.
