Happy Sunday, everyone!
There will be 59 players in camp with the Indians when Spring Training begins. There are a lot of question marks heading into this season, so it will be interesting to see who remains once the roster is finalized for Opening Day.
For 2019, the Indians will once again have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to their starting rotation. Shane Bieber will look to take another step forward as the back end of the Tribe’s star-studded rotation.
MLB Network continued their position rankings with relief pitchers and shortstops. Unsurprisingly, none of the Tribe relief arms made the list. Also unsurprisingly, Francisco Lindor sits atop the shortstop list (don’t tell MLB Network that his calf is currently in a state of disrepair).
Around the league
- Michael Hill, the president of the Marlins, would like fans to give the team a chance despite systematically gutting the team over the course of the past few years.
- Brett Lawrie hasn’t played professional baseball since the 2016 season. He’s now back with the Brewers.
- Homer Bailey will be in camp with the Royals after signing a minor league deal.
- Madison Bumgarner is apparently not a fan of the opener idea:
Bochy said Bumgarner sent him a text after Zaidi said Giants might use openers. “If you use an opener in my game I’m walking right out of the ballpark.”— Alex Pavlovic (@PavlovicNBCS) February 9, 2019
