Rays whoop Verlander to force Game 5

Morning N&N for October 9

MLB: ALDS-Houston Astros at Tampa Bay Rays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

There must be a hole in the Trop roof that allows Tampa Bay’s batters to see the sign stealers atop nearby buildings. How else could you explain professional baseball players scoring multiple runs off of Baseballing God Justin Verlander?

The Rays scored 4 runs off of The Excuses Man to ensure they will play at least one more game this October.

Why Aren’t They Indians Avisail Garcia and Tommy Pham led the way with 7 hits between them, and LGFT (I guess) Joey Wendle added an RBI double for good measure.

Because the Rays are very good at baseball, they were able to pull this play off:

Tyler Glasnow will start Game 5 for the good guys, against Gerrit Cole.

Around baseball

• The Padres don’t want Buck Showalter. Can’t blame them.

• The Red Sox discovered a little-known aspect of MLB’s staffing rules.
