Prior to their game with the White Sox yesterday, the Cleveland Indians sent Adam Plutko to AAA Columbus because they “will not need a 5th starter for a while.” (Shane Bieber is going to be just that, but temporarily, apparently.) Jeff Beliveau was promoted to take his roster spot. Yes, that Jeff Beliveau. The one who has been the worst of the bad Indians bullpen promotion/demotions. Plutko is likely to return next month.
Yesterday’s game
• The Indians jumped out early on Lucas Giolito and added on periodically. Giolito is not good. Mike Clevinger was a fire emoji, though his attempts at his fire emoji pickoff didn’t net any outs this time. Jose Ramirez had another amazing game. Jason Kipnis continued to hit the ball extremely well, with a home run this time. Greg Allen had another strong game. The aforementioned Jeff Beliveau gave up a homer to the only batter he faced. (Again.)
Around baseball
• Mookie Betts is sidelined.
• LGFT Preston Guilmet is having a nice season in the minors.
• Noah Syndergaard was placed on the DL with a finger injury. Hopefully this is not an Atom Miller Pulley System Situation.
• Brian McCann was also placed on the DL.
• Matt Shoemaker underwent surgery.
