Michael Brantley exits Indians game early with right ankle sprain

This is not a new issue for the Tribe outfielder.

Cleveland Indians outfield Michael Brantley left tonight’s contest against the Colorado Rockies early after taking two painful steps in an attempt to snag a ball hit to left field. According to the Indians, Brantley suffered a right ankle sprain.

Brantley previously missed almost two weeks with an ankle sprain he suffered in mid-June, but we still do not the severity of this particular injury. He also missed a handful of games in May with a sprain on the same ankle, so this isn’t his first ankle-sprain rodeo.

After missing all but 11 games of last season with lingering shoulder issues, Brantley has been a boon for the Indians offense, slashing .300/.359/.447 for a wRC+ of 114 in 87 games.

Abraham Almonte replaced Brantley in left field when he left with his injury, and he’ll likely be filling in there for however long Brantley is gone, depending on how long the former All-Star figures to be out.
