Last night's game was entertaining, wasn't it? Corey Kluber, while not at his best, still gave the Indians seven passable innings while the bats erupted for 11 runs to cruise to an easy victory over the Tigers. Today's game, much like yesterday's game, has the potential to be a pitcher's duel as Carlos Carrasco takes the hill against Justin Verlander.
Justin Verlander, while not quite the pitcher he was in 2011 and 2012, is having another great season for the Detroit Tigers in 2016. The 33 year old veteran comes into today's contest with a 3.33 ERA and a 3.64 FIP over the course of 200 innings pitched so far. In that time frame, Verlander has alloweed 74 earned runs while walking 49 and striking out 216 (good for an ERA+ of 124). His last start came against the Baltimore Orioles on September 11, where he went 5.0 innings and allowed 3 earned runs on on 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7.
The Indians counter with Carlos Carrasco, who is in the middle of a fantastic year of his own despite being sidelined early in the season with an injury. On the year, the 29 year old pitcher holds a 3.32 ERA and a 3.72 FIP in 146.1 innings. In that time frame, Cookie has allowed 54 earned runs while walking 34 and striking out 150 (good for an ERA+ of 144). His last start, which came on September 12 against the Chicago White Sox, was a rough one. In that game, Carrasco lasted just 3.2 innings while giving up 4 earned runs on 8 hits and 1 walk while striking out just 2.
And now, here's the starting 9 for your Tribe:
