The Indians are really hoping Mike Clevinger takes this opportunity and runs with it.
With Danny Salazar on the shelf, Clevinger has a good chance to lock himself into a starting role with the Tribe and is getting his second straight start with the club. The right-hander went four innings in his last start due to a pitch-count limit, allowing one run while striking out five. Clevinger is not going to be on a strict limit today, however.
"Because he got lengthened out the last time and he has a bullpen now, I think you're gonna start seeing more and more the game dictating when he exits," Indians manager Terry Francona said.
The White Sox will start James Shield, who enters with a 10.75 ERA over his last eight starts. The veteran has also given up a shockingly bad 17 home runs in his last 8 starts.
