In the earlier days of the season, you could be forgiven for arguing that Danny Salazar or even Carlos Carrasco had taken over as the de facto ace(s) of the Tribe rotation. Lately, however, Corey Kluber has proved just how wrong you were. That's not a knock on the Dzar or Cookie in the least bit, but a testament to just how dominant the Klubot has been in recent starts. Here's where he stands now in a handful of totally not cherry-picked statistical categories:
Category | Klubot #s | AL Rank |
ERA | 3.21 | 9th |
SIERA | 3.47 | 3rd |
xFIP | 3.37 | 2nd |
SO | 156 | 5th |
K/9 | 8.94 | 8th |
fWAR | 4.2 | 1st |
Not too bad, eh? He'll be squaring off against Chicago's Jose Quintana, who also is not too bad (3rd in AL with a 3.7 fWAR). Quintana is a tough lefty, so it's no surprise to see Lonnie Chisenhall and Tyler Naquin sitting this one out. Hopefully streaking Jose Ramirez and Mike Napoli can feast on the southpaw and get the series off to a good start.
Let's Go Tribe!
