I can't speak for the man, but I imagine Josh Tomlin hopes to straighten out his season today against a dangerous Red Sox lineup. In his last two, starts, Tomlin allowed 14 runs in 8.2 innings of work. This falls squarely into the "wow" category on my chart of starting pitching ratings, which is up there between "ouch" and "boiiiinnggggg".
On the other side of the diamond, Drew Pomeranz is still without a win in a Red Sox uniform. He left his last two starts with a lead, only to watch his bullpen kindly give it up. The Indians selected Pomeranz fifth overall in the 2010 draft; since then, he's spent time in the Rockies, A's, and Padres organizations, in addition to the Sox.
While Francisco Mejia's hitting streak in Lynchburg may be over, there are two streaks percolating at the major league level. Mike Napoli is on a 14-game tear, while Jose Ramirez hit safely in the last 18 games.
Also, Napoli is one home run from a certain sacred milestone.
