It's hard to really blame the Los Angeles Angels for the deal they made in 2014. Young pitching prospect Mike Clevinger was coming off Tommy John surgery, and they really needed a reliever down the stretch. So, naturally, they decided to pick off the corpse of what remained of the 2013 Cleveland Indians bullpen.
The Angels wound up with Vinnie Pestano, who pitched a whopping 9.2 innings down the stretch in 2014 and 11.2 bad innings in 2015 before his contract was up and he was gone.
Meanwhile, in Cleveland, Mike Clevinger flew up the Indians' top prospect list on the back of his electric fastball and great breaking pitches in the minors. Clevinger has had control issues in the majors so far, but the 25-year-old rookie still shows great promise with the type of pitches he has at his disposal. He will get a chance to make his former organization regret their decision in mere minutes whenever the game decides to start.
