As of 3:24 PM PST, Jonathan Lucroy is not on his way to Cleveland. If you've been following Twitter, however, that could change within the next few hours/days. It's hard to focus on anything else right now as we anxiously await some trade information. However, while we wait to praise/complain about the front office, the Cleveland Indians welcome the Oakland Athletics for game 2 of this 3 game series. Cleveland pulled out a showstopper last night in the seventh inning to take game 1 from Oakland. Josh Tomlin heads to the mound today to see if he can keep the win train rolling.
Oakland sends LHP Dillon Overton to the mound to start today's game. Overton has only pitched in three games for the A's this season; he was called up on June 25 and has been a part of the rotation for the A's during his time with the big league club. His extremely small sample size of MLB innings pitched is 15.0; in those 15 innings, Overton holds a 8.40 ERA and a 8.00 FIP with 14 earned runs, 10 strikeouts, and 5 walks (good for an ERA+ of 50). His last start came on July 19 against Houston where he went 6.1 innings and gave up 3 earned runs on 9 hits and zero walks while striking out six. With Rich Hill on the DL, Overton looks to be a part of a struggling A's rotation from here on out.
Cleveland counters with Josh "screw you, peripherals" Tomlin. Tomlin continues to flirt with disaster with a 4.87 FIP, which is markedly higher than his 3.48 ERA. He's thrown 113.2 innings for the Tribe this year, allowing 44 earned runs while striking out 80 and walking only 12 batters (good for an ERA+ of 134). His last start came on July 23 against the Baltimore Orioles; during that start, Tomlin went 6.0 innings and allowed 4 earned runs on 7 hits (two of which left the yard) and zero walks while striking out 8.
One of the notable exclusions from today's lineup is catcher Roberto Perez. If a Lucroy deal is getting finalized, Perez could be a part of that deal. Otherwise, we have Juan Uribe (sigh), Abraham Almonte (sigh), and Chris Gimenez (SIGH) in the lineup this evening. And now, here's the starting 9 for your Tribe:
Try and focus on the game if you can. LET'S GO TRIBE!!!
