AAA: Placed RHP Cody Anderson on the Disabled List retro to June 13 (right elbow tightness)

1B Juan De la Cruz promoted from Mahoning Valley (SSA) to Lynchburg (A)

A: RHP Antonio Romero released

Signed OF Mitch Longo (14th Round)

The big news of the week was Anderson's injury, which will sideline him at least 4 weeks. Anderson's UCL checked out ok, but in the meantime the Indians will have fewer starting depth options to choose from. Mike Clevinger and Ryan Merritt would likely be the players called upon if needed in Anderson's absence.

RHP Adam Plutko promoted from Akron (AA) to Columbus (AAA)

With Anderson's injury, Plutko gets his first opportunity in AAA. In roughly 190 AA innings he allowed 160 hits and struck out 153, all while allowing only 35 walks. He is not on the 40-man roster, but the Indians need to add him this winter to avoid him being selected in the Rule 5 draft, so if there's a need for down the stretch I don't think the Indians would have any problem with adding him to the roster. His upside isn't very high, but I do think he can help the team right now.

June 17

Signed 3B Jonathan Laureno (25th Round), 2B Samad Taylor (10th Round), OF Will Benson (1st Round), RHP Aaron Civale (3rd Round), C Logan Ice (2nd Comp. Round)

AAA: Activated RHP Toru Murata from the Disabled List

Michael Martinez has has gotten semi-regular playing time since Marlon Byrd's suspension, as Terry Francona has treated him as Lonnie Chisenhall's platoon partner, something that I didn't think would happen, but after some reflection, should have anticipated. Rather than seeing if Chisenhall could at least hold his own against left-handed pitching, Francona has maintained the platoon even though Martinez has had no MLB success at the plate against any pitching (right or left-handed). I could understand the use of a platoon when the Indians had Ryan Raburn or Marlon Byrd, players with a history of hitting left-handed pitching, but the use of Martinez in this role baffles me.

Corey Kluber is now the worst pitcher (by bWAR) in the Indians rotation. Kluber has a 2.93 FIP.
