Cleveland Indians Minor League Player of the Week (6/5-6/11)

Mama Hartson worked her magic as Lake County long reliever Brock Hartson pulled a whopping 64% of the vote last week to secure his victory.

This week, it was all about offense. Only one pitcher was able to pull off two impressive appearances while there was a laundry list of excellent hitting candidates left on the cutting room floor who would have been nominees in previous weeks.

Some of the following Tribe farmhands will be extremely familiar to you as we had them ranked high on our preseason prospects list, but don't discount some of the unfamiliar names either, as they may be working their way onto next season's lists.

Without further ado, here are the Tribe's top performers from the past week (June 5-June 11):

Francisco Mejia (A, C) - .500/.500/1.000

Top Tribe catching prospect Francisco Mejia was an absolute monster this past week, picking up his second "Player of the Week" nomination. The 20-year old native of the Dominican Republic  swung such a hot bat that he didn't take one walk for the entire week, instead, racking up an organization-leading 13 hits in just six games played.

Out of those 13 hits, four of them left the park, which is especially impressive considering prior to this week, Mejia only had one home run this season. Mejia raised his season batting average to .338, which is first overall in the Midwest League and he's second in OPS. This is his repeat season at Lake County and I would be absolutely shocked if he wasn't promoted following his appearance in the upcoming Midwest League All-Star game.

Connor Marabell (A, OF) - .435/.458/.782

Remember how Mejia was second in the Midwest League in OPS this season? Yeah, that's because Conor Marabell is first.

The 25th round selection in the 2015 draft had a tremendous start to the week, with eight hits in his first three games including two home runs on June 7th against Lansing. Marabell also picked up another two doubles on the week and now leads the Midwest League in two-baggers on the season with 20.

Marabell has shown a great approach at the plate this season, striking out 29 times while walking 24. It's a downright travesty that he wasn't included in the Midwest League All-Star game.

Bobby Bradley (A+, 1B) - .417/.417/.833

Bradley had a very unique and strange week at the plate. The usually patient slugger who is fourth in the Carolina League in walks with 37, has not taken a base on balls since June 1st. That didn't stop Bradley from hitting, however, as Bradley racked up at least one hit in all six games he played this past week, with four multi-hit games.

Those hits weren't just singles either. Our of his 10 base hits this week, Bradley racked up four doubles and two more home runs, bringing him to an organization-leading 15 on the season. Strikeouts have been a problem for Bradley and they were still an issue this week as he whiffed eight times out of his 14 total putouts, which means his BABIP was an insane .500 this week.

Hopefully, his approach at the plate can even out again, but his results after making contact are still mightily impressive.

Adam Moore (AAA, C) - .480/.519/.600

Adam Moore isn't going to rocket up any major prospect lists, having entered the Cleveland organization as a free agent catcher in December 2014, but he sure had a big week.

The 32-year old could not have started the week any hotter, following up a 3-3 game with a scorching 5-5 game. While not known for his power, Moore did a great job getting on base this week, picking up two walks and a ridiculous 12 hits despite only playing in six contests.

Three of Moore's hits were doubles and the 2006 sixth round draft pick is currently riding an eight-game hitting streak. During his current run, Moore has increased his batting average from .193 to .268 on the season.

Jesus Aguilar (AAA, 1B) - .385/.515/.923

While Jesus Aguilar has not been hitting for a high average this year, the power is still there and he put everything on full display this past week with a tremendous hitting display.

Aguilar walloped four home runs in the week including two in one game in yesterday's 15-12 loss (the second dinger tied the game at eight). On top of the four bombs, Aguilar had two doubles and also accrued seven walks, reaching base successfully 17 times in total, more than any other player in the organization these past seven days.

Julian Merryweather (A+, RHP) - 0.87 ERA, 10.5 K/9, 0.77 WHIP

After returning from an injury, Julian Merryweather has not missed a beat. The talented 2014 fifth round draft pick threw four scoreless innings with four strikeouts while on a pitch count in his return to the mound and then followed it up yesterday with a magnificent performance where he threw 6.1 innings, striking out eight and walking none.

At 24 years old, Merryweather is a bit long in the tooth for High-A ball, but he's done everything asked of him by the Tribe organization and has been by far the best pitcher in the Carolina League this year. That includes top Tribe pitching prospect Justus Sheffield, who will join him later this month in the Carolina League All-Star game.
