Tonight, the Indians should deploy every possible weapon to defend their lead over the Royals in the race for the AL Central. As of right now the Indians are 2nd in the AL Central, leading the Royals and Tigers by .001 in winning percentage.
Now that I've gotten the most useless but still intriguing stat I've ever written about out of the way, we can get to the game itself. The Royals and their superb defense committed three errors in a blowout loss to the Nationals on Wednesday. When ranked against the rest of the AL, they are 13th in runs scored. They are 13th in on-base percentage. They are (at the time of writing) 13th in slugging percentage. Bucking the trend, they are dead last in at-bats per home run. They have lost seven of their last nine games. This is, dare I say it, a Royals team that looks like the predictions made by projection systems.
Danny Salazar should take delight in facing the offense with the fewest walks in the AL. I don't like making bold predictions, but if he and the rest of the Indians staff give up fewer runs than Yordano Ventura and the Royals, I think we have a chance to win this one.
