Cleveland Indians News and Notes for Opening Day Eve

The only thing yet to be decided before Opening Day is the roster moves to make room for the three non-roster players that have made the club.

Let's hope this isn't what we'll see on Monday.

Yesterday's Game: Cleveland 3, Texas 1 (played in Texas)

Davis, Salazar pace Indians in spring finale | indians.com

CLE vs. TEX - 04/02/2016 (Box Score)

Danny Salazar pitched five solid innings (1 ER, 6 H, 5 SO, 3 BB) in Cleveland's Spring Training finale. Rajai Davis had the big hit of the game, a three-run homer in the third off of Derek Holland. Trevor Bauer pitched an inning of scoreless baseball in relief, presumably a preview of his role with the team to open the season. Most of the starting position players had two at-bats before taking the second half of the game off. The next time the club takes will be, weather permitting, a little after 4 PM on Monday to begin the 2016 regular season.

Cleveland Indians owner Paul Dolan learned painful lessons from signings of Swisher, Bourn -- Terry Pluto | cleveland.com

The Bourn and Swisher signings were very much a departure from the team's philosophy when they happened, and because of how they turned out, the team has returned to its basic 21st century strategy: develop or trade for young players, and give the big contracts to those players. The Indians signed several major-league free agents this winter, but they were all signed to one-year deals.

Cleveland Indians owner Paul Dolan says team is keeping Chief Wahoo, but not as main logo -- Terry Pluto | cleveland.com

Covered in much more detail in yesterday's post. As far as I can tell, there will be no difference in how the logos are used, though this does mark the first time the team has made any kind of announcement about it. For a couple of years now, the official team logo, used on the scoreboard, the website, and the media, has been the Block C, and Chief Wahoo has been used mainly on merchandise. In this case, the team's actions preceded their words, and the headlines are reporting something that really happened in 2014.
