Cleveland Indians 2016 draft pick set at No. 14

Dead center of the first round, here we come!

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

With Ian Desmond signing a one-year, $8 million deal with the Texas Rangers yesterday -- and the Rangers losing their first-round draft pick as a result -- the 2016 MLB Draft order is set. The Indians, who finished one game technically above .500 at 81-80 last season will pick right near the center of the first round at No. 14.

The Indians did not have any free agents receive qualifying offers (weirdly they didn't offer one to Mike Aviles), so they also do not have any compensatory picks coming after the first round.

The Indians have only chosen 14th in the MLB Draft twice in franchise history -- Tim Glass in 1976 and Trevor Crowe in 2005 -- but they have had several picks in the middle of the first round. Most notably these include Manny Ramirez at No. 13 (1991), Tyler Naquin at No. 15 (2012), Charles Nagy at No. 17 (1988), and just last year they chose Brady Aiken with the 17th overall pick.

The full list can be seen below, including division rival Detroit Tigers at No. 9, Chicago White Sox at No. 10, and the Minnesota Twins at No. 15. The Kansas City Royals gave up their first-round pick when they signed pitcher Ian Kennedy.
