In Game 1, Terry Francona may have overthought things a bit by starting the switch-hitting Coco Crisp in left field against Marco Estrada instead instead of Rajai Davis just to get the “correct” lefty-righty matchup. There was no such thought process in today’s lineup construction, as Lonnie Chisenhall will get the start in right field against a left-handed pitcher.
Lonnie faced lefties just 46 times in 2016, with just as many strikeouts, 10, as hits, also 10. He also did not have a single regular-season home run against southpaws, but he hit his first of the year in Game 2 of the ALDS when he contributed half of the Tribe’s six runs off of David Price with a single swing. He will get another shot tonight.
The rest of the lineup is standard for facing a left-handed pitcher. Rajai Davis leads off, Carlos Santana slides back into the five-hole, and Brandon Guyer tunes up his lefty-crushin’ bat stick.
