Are the Indians still postseason contenders? I don't think they are. They still have a very reasonable shot at finishing the year with a winning record though. That would be something. It would be three winning seasons in a row, something the Tribe hasn't had during the 2000s. The Indians are currently 68-70, which means winning three of four against the Tigers in this series would get them to .500 for the first time since they were 2-2. It also means a sweep would get th-- well, I can't even bring myself to think about a potential sweep right now. It'd do nice things though.

Today's Lineups

DETROIT TIGERS CLEVELAND INDIANS
Rajai Davis - LF Jason Kipnis - DH
Ian Kinsler - 2B Francisco Lindor - SS
Miguel Cabrera - 1B Michael Brantley - LF
J.D. Martinez - RF Carlos Santana - 1B
Victor Martinez - DH Lonnie Chisenhall - RF
Nick Castellanos - 3B Abraham Almonte - CF
James McCann - C Yan Gomes - C
Andrew Romine - SS Jose Ramirez - 2B
Anthony Gose - CF Giovanny Urshela - 3B
Alfredo Simon - RHP Danny Salazar - RHP

Alfredo Simon has not been a good pitcher this season. He's got a 4.86 ERA and an ERA+ of just 82. Against the Indians though, he's been Pedro Martinez, sporting a 4-0 record in four starts, with a 1.50 ERA. Regression to the mean might say he's due to give up something like 11 runs in 3 innings tonight.

That sounds pretty good to me.
