Here's to a great week!
A's 2, Indians 1
The Tribe's offense struggled again and the Indians fell in extra innings Sunday afternoon in Oakland. Starter Trevor Bauer pitched well, throwing 6 2/3 innings of one run ball. Cody Allen took the loss, his third of the year, after giving up a two-out double to Mark Canha in the tenth.
Tribe News
Jason Kipnis could be headed to disabled list with sore shoulder (Hoynes)
Kipnis had an MRI scan Sunday morning and the Indians have yet to announce how serious the right shoulder is. It was noted that the second baseman has been dealing with shoulder soreness often this season. The Tribe can ill afford to lose their most productive hitter, as Kipnis is currently hitting .326/.401/.477 with six home runs and 39 RBI. From Terry Francona:
"It could be a DL, but we'll see. We want to put our heads together on this. We want to do what's right and we want to give him some time to digest it."
Indians offense struggling, ranking last in runs since June 1st (Bastian via Twitter)
The Tribe has scored just 174 runs since June 1st. That's. Not. Good.
Around the League
Impact players who could still be traded (Townsend)
Post deadline deals can be juicy (see Dodgers-Red Sox deal with Adrian Gonzalez in 2012) and guys like Carlos Gonzalez, James Shields, and Jeff Samardzija could all be moved.
Rays to demote Matt Moore (Chastain)
The talented left-hander will be optioned to Triple-A Durham and the Rays will go with a four-man rotation for the time being. Moore has a 8.78 ERA this year.
Royals involved in another benches-clearing incident (Baer)
There was some beanball between the Royals and Blue Jays on Sunday, with lots of yelling and gesturing. Big shocker . . . Yordano Ventura was in the middle of the ruckus.
