With Cody Anderson on the DL, disabled list alumni Josh Tomlin will be taking his spot in the starting rotation tonight as the Cleveland Indians take on the Minnesota Twins. Tomlin is returning to the Major League club for the first time since he underwent shoulder surgery on April 8.
How Tomlin will adjust coming off the injury is a complete mystery at this point. He only pitched in seven total games this season in the minor leagues, and manager Terry Francona admitted that the starter’s velocity is not what it was last year.
In 16 starts last season, Tomlin allowed 103 hits and walked only 10 to go with 80 strikeouts. His 4.53 ERA was the second-lowest season total for Tomlin as a starter in his career, with his best season coming in 2011.
Assuming the Indians can keep up their total domination of the Twins that they have enjoyed recently; this could be the perfect spot for Tomlin to debut. Nothing makes the transition back from shoulder surgery easier than pitching with a seven-run lead, right?
