I'm not sure what exactly changed at the Tribe after the catastrophic double shutout debacle at Camden Yards on Sunday, but they look like a new team. Whatever it is, long may it continue!
Having seen Cody Anderson, Danny Salazar and Carlos Carrasco all put up stellar outings that were backed up by some real offense, Corey Kluber could certainly do with some of that run support. He is currently lowest in the league in that category, a paltry 2.31, and the Tribe only scored nine runs in his five June starts.
Lefty Matt Moore has been activated by the Rays to make his first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2014. In 2012-13. Moore was an above average starter, pitching 58 games, but he only played twice last year before he was shut down .
Moore has been playing rehab games for around a month, including two starts at AAA, ironically both of which happened to be against the Columbus Clippers. His combined stats for those two games (in each of which he threw 90-95 pitches) were 10.1 IP, 12 H, 6 R/5 ER, 15 SO, 4 BB, 2 HR, so while Moore was hittable, he was also striking out guys at a terrific clip. One would imagine that the Rays might well restrict Moore to five innings or so (and/or around 90 pitches) in his first MLB game back.
|CLEVELAND INDIANS||TAMPA BAY RAYS|
|Jason Kipnis - 2B||Kevin Kiermaier - CF|
|Francisco Lindor - SS||Joey Butler - LF|
|Michael Brantley - CF||Evan Longoria - 3B|
|Ryan Raburn - DH||Grady Sizemore - DH|
|Carlos Santana - 1B||Logan Forsythe - 2B|
|Yan Gomes - C||Asdrubal Cabrera - SS|
|Brandon Moss - RF||Brandon Guyer - RF|
|Giovanny Urshela - 3B||Jake Elmore - 1B|
|Mike Aviles - LF||Rene Rivera - C|
|Corey Kluber - RHP||Matt Moore - LHP|
Francisco Lindor and Yan Gomes are back in the line-up after being rested yesterday, so the Tribe is fielding probably their best anti-LHP line-up.
Michael Bourn has chosen today to serve his one-game suspension (for an ejection on June 17). This obviously makes sense with a lefty SP on the mound, as he wouldn't normally be in the starting nine anyway.
