Jason Kipnis breaks record for longest hitting streak in Progressive Field history

With a single off Detroit's Buck Farmer in the 3rd inning on Wednesday, Jason Kipnis set a new Jacobs/Progressive Field record for longest hitting streak in stadium history (which dates to 1994). Kipnis has now collected at least one hit in 28 consecutive games there, besting the streak by Elvis Andrus, which began way back in 2009, and only ended last month, when Andrus went 0 for 2 in the series finale between the Tribe and Rangers.

Kipnis set the stadium record for longest hitting streak by an Indians hitter nearly two weeks ago, when he passed the 19-game streak Michael Brantley posted last April and May.

Beyond just having set the stadium record, Kipnis also nowhas the 2nd-longest home hitting streak in franchise history. The record is held by Hal Trosky, who hit in 31 consecutive home games for the Indians back in 1936. (Actually, it's the longest since at least 1914, but we don't have streak data for earlier than that.) If I didn't jinx him, Kipnis could tie and break that mark against the Astros during the second week of July. (The Indians have a long road trip starting on Friday, which is why there'd be such a long wait despite him being only 4 games shy of the mark.)

Kipnis has also hit in 19 straight games overall, which is tied with Washington's Wilson Ramos for the longest streak in the Majors this year. The only other Indians player with a streak that long this decade is Michael Brantley, who hit in 22 straight in 2012 and 19 straight in 2010. The franchise record for longest hitting streak is held by Sandy Alomar, who hit in 30 consecutive games back in 1997.
