Cleveland Indians at Texas Rangers series preview

Ten series. And counting. Since the Tribe last won a series. Thirty games. Since the last winning streak. Nothing much more needs to be said. Anyways, onto the series preview for the Texas Rangers.

The Tribe now return to the only division that have a winning record against, the AL West. Granted the small size of one series comes into play. And it was the first series of the season. But the Tribe head down to Arlington to take on the Texas Rangers.

  • Friday's game is at 8:05 PM (Chen vs. Rodriguez)
  • Saturday's game is at 8:05 PM (Salazar vs. Lewis)
  • Sunday's game is at 3:05 PM (Carrasco vs. Martinez)

After sweeping the Astros in Houston last week, the Rangers split a four game series in Tampa and just split a four game set at home with the Royals. Once this weekend series is complete, the Tribe will head to Chicago for four games before returning home next Friday against the Cincinnati Reds.

Division Watch: Tigers at Cardinals, Yankees at Royals, Rays at Twins, White Sox at A's.

If anyone recalls, 2014 was a rough, rough year for the Rangers. They had a multitude of injuries and finished behind the Astros in the West in last place. They used an incredible 64 players last season, including 37 pitchers. Well, this year looks to be a duplication of last year. Go ahead and scroll down to that injury list. There are ten guys on the DL, nine of them of the 60 day variety. And that includes their three top starting pitching options. Crazy.

This offense is not that good. There are multiple guys really struggling to get on base. This includes both catchers, Beltre and Martin. Martin may play in this series and just got a cortisone shot. Blanks returns back to the bench with Moreland being activated. He played well while Moreland was out, so he might get some play this weekend. But right now, Fielder is driving this offense. LGFT Choo shows up here, but is not his once dominant self. Tribe killer Andrus (916 OPS career) is off to a horrid start. Good thing the Rangers "only" owe him $116M through 2023.

This time around, he scheduling gods did not favor the Tribe as they get the best three starters statwise. Rodriguez only has four starts in 2015, with just one of them poor. This will be his Indians debut. Oh, and he's a lefty; that should be fun. Lewis has given up just four runs in his past four starts, 15 hits and 21 strikeouts. He has not fares well against the Tribe in his career however, a 6.37 ERA in five starts. Martinez was hot to start the season (two runs in his first four starts), but has been more mortal in May, 4.24 ERA in three starts. He faced the Tribe once in 2014 and didn't get out of the third inning, giving up 8 runs.

The pen looks to have poor numbers overall and both lefties are still relatively new to the pen. Feliz is the only guy with a significant number of appearances, 11, against Cleveland. He has a 5.40 ERA, 1.275 WHIP and 8.8 K/9.

Prediction: Until the Tribe actually wins a series, I am done trying to predict one. They win just one deep in the heart of Texas.
