Brandon Moss leads Indians in win over Tigers

Welcome to Cleveland, Mr. Moss

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Indians 13, Tigers 1

Box Score

Tribe moves to 6-9

The script did not look good for the Tribe.

The Indians' offense entered Friday's game struggling pretty much the entire season.  Multiple players, including Michael Brantley, Jason Kipnis, Brandon Moss, and others were off to incredibly slow starts.

The Tigers countered with starting pitcher Shane Greene.  Greene, acquired from the Yankees in the off season, had been fantastic in his first three starts. He entered the game with a 3-0 record and a 0.39 ERA (wow).

Add in the brutal sweep earlier in the year back in Cleveland and pretty much all signs pointed to another tough series opener for the Indians.  Thankfully, they played the game and the script was completely flipped.

Cleveland's bats came alive, finishing with 15 hits, as the Indians pounded the Tigers 13-1.  Brandon Moss led the Indians with two home runs and seven RBI's, and Lonnie Chisenhall added a home run and two RBI's.  Moss and Brantley had three hits on the night, while Kipnis, Chisenhall, David Murphy, and Jose Ramirez each added two hits for the Tribe.

The Indians led 3-1 after two innings and took firm control in the sixth, as the first six batters in the inning came around to score.  The key hit was Moss' three run homer off of Tigers' reliever Alex Wilson.

Staying with the positive news, the Indians got another strong start from Danny Salazar.  Salazar routinely hit 95+ mph and showed improved command, striking out a career-high 11 and giving up one run in seven innings.   It seems that Salazar will be a lock in the Tribe's rotation for the near future.

Greene took the loss, giving up eight earned runs in just four innings.  He allowed 11 base runners while striking out just one.  His sparkling ERA jumped over two and a half points with tonight's outing to an even 3.00.

This is the Tigers' fourth loss in a row, dropping the them to 11-6 on the year.  Tomorrow's game pairs Trevor Bauer against Alfredo Simon, with a 1:08 ET first pitch.
