The Indians head to lovely Peoria, Arizona for this afternoon's game against the Mariners. Peoria, Arizona was named after Peoria, Illinois, which is sort of a weird place to be named after.

Anyway...

Today's scheduled pitchers:

  • Carlos Carrasco
  • Bruce Chen
  • Marc Rzepczynski
  • Scott Downs
  • Nick Maronde
The Tribe's postseason chances ride in part upon Carrasco being able to approximate his second half of 2014 over a full season. I mean, he doesn't need to be quite that good, but he needs to be closer to that than to the rest of his body of work as an MLB starter. Chen is depth, whom the Indians hopefully will never need as a starter. Baseball teams have a way of needing more starters than they might like though, so hopefully Chen can do the opposite of Carrasco, and not pitch the way he did in 2014.

Today's starting lineup:

  1. Jason Kipnis (2B)
  2. Yan Gomes (C)
  3. Michael Brantley (LF)
  4. Brandon Moss (DH)
  5. Lonnie Chisenhall (3B)
  6. David Murphy (RF)
  7. Jose Ramirez (SS)
  8. Jerry Sands (1B)
  9. Jordan Smith (CF)

Put Santana and Bourn into that lineup (and move Carlos up to cleanup), and you'd have an Opening Day lineup I'd be happy with.
