As Indians Stay Out of Free Agent Market, Other Teams Hoping Players Opt Out?

This should tell you something, clecommers.

Free agency sucks.
Free agency sucks.
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Ken Rosenthal wrote a column yesterday. These first few items are from that:

• An executive said "it's almost as if teams are signing free agents hoping that they will opt out." Which goes to show you how even the teams handing out these contracts know that they'll regret them in a couple years. Which is why the Indians and other small market teams are staying far away.

• "[T]he Reds want significant prospects for two years of [Todd] Frazier." Good luck with that, Reds.

• "The Dodgers essentially can wait no longer to move outfielder Andre Ethier, who on May 2 will gain full no-trade protection as a player with 10 years of major-league service, five consecutive with the same club." The Dodgers would have to cover a significant portion of Ethier's salary, but he's a player I would show some interest in.

• "Bob Nightengale" is on the "Indians have interest in Todd Frazier" train. White Sox and Royals also mentioned, in addition to the Los Angeles Dodgers of Los Angeles.

• The Milwaukee Brewers signed former Boston third baseman Will Middlebrooks to a MiLB contract. He was last with the Padres.

• The Royals did the same with Dillon Gee. I like this one better, unfortunately.

• Brandon Phillips and Dusty Baker could reunite in Washington. What a duo.
