Felix Hernandez gets rocked, Corey Kluber now deserves AL Cy Young

If you came for playoff scenarios, I suggest you try another team's blog. No, not Minnesota's...

Goodbye, 2014 season
Goodbye, 2014 season

Michael Brantley leads the AL in batting average with runners in scoring position with a .374 mark. David Murphy is second.

• Michael Brantley leads the AL in batting average in September with a .419 mark.

• Carlos Carrasco apologized for saying bad things about the defense behind him. I had no idea he had even said anything until I read of the apology—but anyways, he was 100% right to speak negatively about that mirage on the baseball diamond that calls itself a defense. Maybe it's something they needed to hear from a pitcher earlier in the season.

Felix Hernandez got shelled last night in Toronto and the Mariners playoff hopes took a huge hit. Hernandez gave up 8 earned runs and now has a smaller ERA lead than Corey Kluber's FIP lead. Kluber also now leads by a full win according to  fWAR. And here, Rob Neyer writes that Kluber is having the best season of any AL pitcher.

• The Indians broke their streak of 19 straight innings without scoring a run when they scored an unearned run on a David Murphy double play grounder. #2014Indians

• JB Shuck pinch ran last night and Chris Gimenez was used as a defensive replacement.

• And this is literally unbelievable: Terry Francona brought in Bryan Shaw last night to get the final out down by six runs. After conceding the game by removing his stars for the guys in the previous bullet point.

• That aforementioned manager also intentionally walked Omar Infante last night. If you're thinking "doesn't he have an OPS of 650?"—no, he doesn't. It's 640.

• But hey! Good news: this is all it would take for Francisco Lindor to be a 4-win SS.

• Here, Michael Bourn talks extensively about the 2014 season. It's worth your time.

• And I'm not sure if I should have been, but I was quite surprised to see that the Braves want to make this move on more than an interim basis:
