Indians activate Ryan Raburn from disabled list

The roster expands a little farther...

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

The Indians have activated Ryan Raburn from the disabled list, where he's been since August 18, after he injured his wrist on a diving catch in the outfield. Because it's September and rosters are expanded, no corresponding move had to be made.

After hitting very well for the Tribe in 2013, Raburn has been lost at the plate this season, with a .191/.240/.277 batting line that puts him in the running for worst semi-regular in the league. In theory he gives Terry Francona another option against left-handed pitchers, but Raburn has struggled against all sorts of pitchers this season. Despite those struggles, he's in the lineup batting 7th tonight as the designated hitter, as the team continues to search for success against southpaws.

The Indians owe Raburn $2.5 million for 2015 (and have a team option at $3 million for 2016, with a $100,000 buyout), but I hope they'll be willing to cut ties with him and eat that money if he doesn't show real improvement between now and the start of next season.
