The last time we saw Ubaldo Jimenez he was pitching the Indians to the playoffs in Minnesota. That game was the culmination of a great second half, in which he posted a 1.82 ERA in 84 innings. Had there been a second half Cy Young award, he would have won it. Because of that great stretch, he went from a third-tier free agent to one of the best available on the market, and signed a four-year contract with Baltimore. This season he's reverted to the style of pitcher we saw in 2012 and the first half of 2013 - lots of control problems, though very effective when he was able to throw strikes.
Facing Ubaldo is Carlos Carrasco, who made a surprisingly good start in Yankee Stadium last weekend. Carrasco had been a disaster when last he had been in the rotation, but necessity forced the Indians to turn to him, and this time he delivered five shutout innings. He'll be facing a better lineup this time around.
