Francisco Lindor headed to MLB All-Star Futures Game for third year in a row

Francisco Lindor has been named to the World Team roster for the 2014 MLB All-Star Futures Game, which will take place on Sunday, July 13th at Target Field in Minnesota, as the kick-off event of All-Star festivities there. The game starts at 5:00 ET that day, and is broadcast on the MLB Network and at MLB.com.

This is the third year in a row that Lindor has been named to the team. Him having made it two years ago, when he was still 18, was a very rare accomplishment; there's only one player yet to turn 19 named to the game this year (Julio Urias, a pitcher in the Dodgers system who's actually still only 17).

Even more rare than being named to the Futures Game at the age of 18 is being named to the game three times. Here is a complete list of current MLB position players who appeared in the game (which began in 1999) three times: Shin-Soo Choo, Edwin Encarnacion... that is all.

There are 244 players on an active MLB roster or the disabled list who appeared in the Futures Game, including 6 Indians (Trevor Bauer, Carlos Carrasco, Lonnie Chisenhall, Jason Kipnis, George Kottaras, and Carlos Santana) and 97 players who went on to become an MLB All-Star (including 47% of the players who were MLB All-Stars in 2013).

The majority of Futures Game participants will become MLB players, and approximately 20% of them go on to become an MLB All-Star at some point. In our dream world, Francisco Lindor doesn't just play in a number of All-Star Games as an Indian, he also plays in his first one in 2015.

Going from the Futures Game one year to the MLB All-Star Game the next is rare, but for from unprecedented, as 12 players have pulled it off: Jose Altuve, Adam Dunn, Neftali Feliz, Jose Fernandez, Jason Heyward, Bryce Harper, Francisco Liriano, Evan Longoria, Manny Machado, Jean Segura, Ben Sheets and Geovany Soto.
