The Indians have placed outfielder Nyjer Morgan on the 15-day DL with a knee injury, and called up prospect Jesus Aguilar to take his place on the roster.
Morgan left night's game only a few minutes after entering in place of Michael Brantley (who'd been taken out with tightness in his mid back, and is listed as day-to-day). He made a very awkward attempt on what turned into a double, and I wasn't surprised to hear he'd hurt himself on the play. Morgan had put up an impressive batting line of .341/.429/.439 in 52 plate appearances, so while he wasn't expected to be a significant contributor for the team this year, his injury now feels like a loss, albeit not a major one.
Aguilar, 23, had a great winter-league season in his home country of Venezuela, and has continued to hit well so far this spring with Columbus, where he has a .298/.395/.519 line, with 7 home runs in 37 games. Those numbers are somewhat skewed by the Clippers playing in a strong hitters' park, but there's still plenty of reason to be optimistic about him.
Aguilar has a little experience playing left field, but is primarily a first baseman, ans may be best suited as a DH. That's exactly where he'll be tonight, as he's been pencilled into the #6 spot in the lineup. He may start there regularly against lefties, unless Francona is finally going to let Chisenhall play against southpaws.
