Game Thread: Indians @ Athletics - April 2, 2014 (the nightcap)

The rubber match! (and a chance to wash the taste of this afternoon's game out of our mouths)

Ezra Shaw

Cleveland Indians @ Oakland Athletics

Wednesday, Apri 2, 2014 (9:05 ET)

Starting pitchers: Zach McAllister (RH) vs. Josh Lindblom (RH)

Lindblom wasn't on the 25-man roster, but was called up to make the start tonight. It will be just his 6th career MLB start.

Starting Lineups:

Indians Athletics
Nyjer Morgan (CF) Sam Fuld (CF)
Nick Swisher (1B) Josh Donaldson (3B)
Jason Kipnis (DH) Jed Lowrie (SS)
Carlos Santana (C) Brandon Moss (DH)
Michael Brantley (LF) Yoenis Cespedes (LF)
Asdrubal Cabrera (SS) John Jaso (C)
David Murphy (RF) Josh Reddick (RF)
Mike Aviles (2B) Nick Punto (2B)
Lonnie Chisenhall (3B) Daric Barton (1B)

Chisenhall makes his 2013 debut, as the doubleheader requires Santana to head behind the plate, and Yan Gomes gets the night off. Kipnis gets to semi-rest by playing DH, as Aviles slides over to cover second base. Hopefully this group does better than the (very similar) group that played this afternoon.

Today's other AL Central games:

Tigers 2, Royals 1 - Max Scherzer pitched 8 shutout innings, but Joe Nathan blew the save opportunity. Ian Kinsler (who also homered earlier in the game) hit a walk-off single in the 10th to give Detroit the win.

White Sox 7, Twins 6 - Minnesota was ahead 6-4 heading into the bottom of the 9th, but closer Glen Perkins allowed Chicago to tie the game. The Pale Hose then won on a walk-off wild pitch in the 11th inning.

Today's Indians minor-league affiliate games:

One more day til MiLB kicks off.

Other MLB news:

The Rays have signed pitcher Chris Archer to an extension that will guarantee him $25.5 million for 2014-2019, and also includes team options for 2020 and 2021.

The Diamondbacks sell an 18-inch corn dog (stuffed with cheddar cheese, jalapenos, and bacon, and served with fries) for $25. Demand is so high that they ran out during Tuesday night's game. What a country.

I'm glad Ned Yost isn't the Tribe's manager.
