The Indians have signed right-handed reliever Mark Lowe to a minor-league deal, according to Marc Topkin. Lowe was in camp with the Tampa Bay Rays, but did not make their roster, and chose to opt out in hopes of landing on another roster.
Lowe was a decent reliever for the Rangers in 2011 and 2012, before struggling for the Angels last year. He allowed only 1 run in 10.1 innings this spring, with 12 strikeouts and only 1 walk, which is a very strong line. There hasn't been any word from the Indians yet, but I would guess he's sent to Columbus to begin the year, but if he pitches well there in the first couple weeks, he could be the first reliever called up.
