Indians notes:
- You probably already saw that Justin Masterson and the Indians avoided arbitration with a 1-year deal. Masterson is willing to talk about making that longer during the season, but Chris Antonetti would prefer that talks remain confined to spring training.
Here, Hoynes weighs in. - The Indians are happy about adding another high draft pick, Shaun Marcum is happy to get back on the mound, and non-roster invitees are happy to be in camp. That and more in Jordan Bastian's daily notes at MLB.com.
Around MLB:
- Francisco Liriano will start Opening Day for the Pirates and R.A. Dickey will do so for the Blue Jays.
- It is quite possible that the Minnesota Twins and Johan Santana will reunite. Multiple teams are interested, however. I could definitely see the Indians being one.
Warning to link clickers: massive picture of Johan's face. - The Braves released Mat Gamel; Matt Laporta's fellow Brewers prospect bust. Gamel, like LaPorta, has been battling injuries.
