Oakland trades Josh Donaldson to Blue Jays

Deal involves Brett Lawrie and three other players. How's that for Black Friday shopping?

The Big Trade

The answer to the Tribe's third base problem was never going to be Josh Donaldson, but it was fun to speculate. Yesterday's deal means that it's time to dream other dreams, as Donaldson is now a Blue Jay.

Pop Culture

I don't mention it very often, but I have maintained an online radio station on Live365 for over 14 years. Festival Radio plays freeform folk and related styles (bluegrass, Celtic, Americana, cajun/zydeco, blues, gospel, singer/soongwriter, technofolk and more).

Every Christmas, I run an additional station, Festival Christmas, playing freeform Christmas music in the same genres. Below are some of my favorite out-of-the-mainstream holiday albums:

Brave Combo - It's Christmas, Man! - If Christmas means polkas for you, then this is what you need

Bruce Cockburn - Christmas - Canadian singer/songwriter includes seldom-heard pieces like the "Huron Carol."

Jethro Tull - The Jethro Tull Christmas Album - No expense was spared in naming the album, but it's quite good, even if it views Christmas through Tull's cynical lens.

John Morgan - Capture the Night - Finger-style guitar from Columbus, Ohio

Over the Rhine - The Darkest Night of The Year - their first Christmas CD and still one of my favorites.

The Arrogant Worms - Christmas Turkey - Canadian comedy band

The Crossing - The Court of a King - Celtic band from Chicago. Album starts with a digeridoo.

Woody Phillips - A Toolbox Chrstmas - You need to hear "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies" played by power tools.
