MLB Final Score/Recap: Indians survive scare in 10th to beat Angels in 14 innings

This was the last game of the season to start after 8:00, and of course it ended up being the longest game of the season. So this recap will unfortunately be very short.

Danny Salazar gave up a home run to the first batter of the game, but after that he and the Tribe pitching staff held the Angels scoreless. Included in that scoreless streak was a bases-loaded, nobody out jam in the tenth that they got out of using three pitchers. Eventually that meant that nobody was left in the bullpen except Carlos Carrasco, but he rose to the occasion, throwing two shutout inning: one with the score tied, and one with a three-run lead.

The Angels' last pitcher in the bullpen was Joe Blanton, a pitcher who would have been released had not he been signed through 2014 (ouch). Here finally was a pitcher the Indians could hit. Drew Stubbs hit a two-run homer to break the tie, and Blanton gifted the Indians another run when he air-mailed a throw to first.

This was a huge, huge win, because not only do the Indians make up ground on the A's, bu just about every other team ahead of them or close behind them. They are now ahead of the Orioles, 2.5 games ahead of the Royals, and 5.5 games behind the Tigers, if one dares to think that the division is still in play.
