Since 1980, the Tribe is a whopping 21-8 on this day. Overall the team has a great record at home and on the road. The highlighted game belongs to the 1948 World Champs, a 26-3 demolishing of the Browns to earn a split in the doubleheader in St. Louis. Fred Sanford (not his son) didn't make it out of the first. Lou Boudreau had an RBI double, Joe Gordon another one and Ken Keltner scored two on a double. Frank Biscan only created more fire, intentionally walking Jim Hegan to get to pitcher Gene Bearden, who promptly hit a grand slam. After a songle and a double, he too was pulled. Al Widmar finally got out of the inning, but the score was now 9-0. The Tribe went down 1-2-3 in the second, but tagged Wismar for four more in the third, with the Eddie Robinson triple the big blow. That was hardly the end of the scoring though, two in the fourth, four n the fifth, three in the sixth and seventh and one last run in the eighth. Meanwhile, Bearden was cruising, four hits two walk and one run in seven. Bob Feller came on to pitch the last two, allowed two runs and somehow qualified for his third save of the year. The visiting Indians had some great hitting lines: Mitchell (6-3-3-2), Hal Peck (6-4-4-3), Boudreau (5-2-3-4), Hegan (4-4-3-1) and Bearden himself (6-4-4-4).

It is amazing the record on this date sits dead even when you consider that the Tribe went 6-19 from 1975 to 1998. In 2003, the Indians beat the Twins 5-0 in 14 innings. Jason Davis and Johan Santana dueled in this game, with Davis only allowing one runner to second and the Indians getting three to second in eight innings off Santana. Jack Cressand took over for Davis in the seventh and created a mess in the eighth on a double and his own error. But Rafael Betancourt got out of the bases loaded jam by getting a Corey Koskie force out. Terry Mulholland pitched four scoreless frames from the tenth through the thirteenth. In the fourteenth, Casey Blake, Jody Gerut and Ryan Ludwick greeted Juan Rincon with singles, and JC Romero was called on to relieve him and hold the score at 1-0. His attempt was no good as after a sacrifice by Ben Broussard, Tim Laker was walked to load the bases. Travis Hafner was hit by a pitch, forcing in one run, Jhonny Peralta singled home two more and the fifth run scored on a John McDonald grounder. David Riske closed out the game getting around a leadoff walk to Denny Hocking.

The Tribe is currently on a six game losing streak. That is still shy of the nine game losing streak from 1966 to 1976. There was also a nine game winning streak from 1945 to 1954. We will stick with 2003 and Minnesota as the Indians beat the Twins 8-3 that day. The first Indian run came on a solo shot by Travis Hafner off Brad Radke. Casey Blake doubled in another in the second and the Indians led 2-0. Hafner was stranded on a double in the fourth. In the seventh he led off the inning with a single to Radke and went to second on the error. Jhonny Peralta doubled him home and Angel Santos also doubled, ending Radke's night. James Baldwin came in and Casey Blake hit a two run shot and the lead ballooned to 6-0. In the eighth, Hafner tripled in Ben Broussard, completing his cycle. Bard singled him home and the lead was 8-0. Meanwhile, Brian Anderson was cruising, going eight strong innings, allowing five hits, two walks and striking out eight. After a leadoff groundout, Matt Lecroy hit a homer and Anderson's night was done. David Cortes came in and allowed two more runs, but the eight runs was too much to overcome.

The best stretch on this date was a 12-2 run from 1944 to 1957, including seven straight from 1944 to 1949. In 1967, the Indians beat the Senators (the Ranger version) 3-0. Stan Williams of the Indians took on Barry Moore, and both pitched very well. In seven innings Moore only gave up three hits and two walks. But Williams was slightly better that day, pitching a shutout and only giving up five hits and no walks. He gave up two singles in the second, getting out of a first and third situation, and allowed doubles in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings. Darold Knowles pitched the eighth for the Senators and after two strikeouts, Chuck Hinton doubled to left. Leon Wagner singled him home and pinch hitter Vic Davalillo homered. Ballgame.

The longest streak on this date is a losing one, seven games from 1974 to 1981. We'll randomly select the 6-5 win in 10 innings over the Brewers in 1988. The Brewers drew first blood, getting three in the first off Rod Nichols on a RBI single by Robin Yount and a two run single by BJ Surhoff. Willie Upshaw got one back in the second of Don August on a grounder. The Indians jumped ahead 5-3 in the third on a three run shot by Mel Hall and solo shot by Cory Snyder. Jim Adduci doubled in Rob Deer in the fourth and the score was 5-4. The score stayed that way until Doug Jones blew the save in the eight when Surhoff singled in Jim Leonard. With Chuck Crim relieving, Upshaw singled and stole second. Brook Jacoby walked and Andy Allanson singled in Upshaw to win the game in walk off fashion in the tenth.

This date has been unkind, including a 2-13 stretch from 1911 to 1927 and an eight game losing streak from 1936 to 1944. One of the few bright spots is the 15-4 in 1933 home win over the Philadelphia Athletics. The Indians scored one in the first and three in the third off George Earnshaw. But the A's fought back with three of their own in the fifth. But Jim Peterson and Rube Walberg let the game blow out by giving up seven in the fifth. Monte Pearson finished with a complete game, allowing 13 hits, walking two and striking out four. But this game is highlighted because Earl Averill hit for the cycle and finished with a 4-4-4-3 line.

This date includes a 19-6 stretch from 1943 to 1966 that was immediately followed by a seven game losing streak from 1967 to 1972. In 1966, the Indians won 2-0 over the White Sox. Sam McDowell pitched a beauty in this one, a three hitter with two walks and eight strikeouts. His only dangerous inning was the third when he walked two. Gary Peters pitched pretty well for the White Sox. But Chuck Hinton was his bane, an RBI double in the fifth and a solos homer in the seventh.
