- Carlos Carrasco has in fact dropped his appeal, and will start serving it today. Somehow the suspension got dropped to 7 games, though no appeal had been heard. Not sure how that happened, but you'll take any good news* that you can get. The Indians will have a 24-man roster for their next seven games while Carrasco is serving his suspension.

- Speaking of good news, Anibal Sanchez will not pitch today. In his place the Tigers are calling up left-handed pitcher Jose Alvarez to make the start, and it will be Alvarez's major-league debut. The Tigers signed the 25-year-old Alvarez as a minor-league free agent last year, and he's pitched very well for AAA Toledo. Here's a scouting report from Bless You Boys.
