- Asdrubal Cabrera has been placed on the 15-day Disabled List, and Juan Diaz has been recalled from Columbus. I'd have to think that the Indians will have signed or acquired a middle infielder by the time they play Friday night, or at the very least added another position player to the roster, because a three-man bench with Juan Diaz isn't going to work for more than a day or two.
- The Indians have signed 18-year-old shortstop Yu-Cheng Chang for $500,000. Chang, who is from Taichung, Taiwan, was considered one of the best amateur free agents in Asia. He'll likely go to the short-season club in Arizona. Chang falls under the International signing category, which includes players not residing in the United States (including Puerto Rico) and Canada. Most of the signings from this group are from the Dominican Republic or Venezuela, but the Indians have signed several players out of Taiwan in recent years, including reliever Chen-Chang Lee and 1B/DH Chen-Hsiu Chun.
