Cleveland Indians Transactions: Chris Perez activated, TJ House optioned, John McDonald traded

In an expected move, the Indians have activated Chris Perez for tonight's game. They have also traded John McDonald to Philadelphia.

Tuesday's rehab outing in Mahoning went well, and that was enough for the Indians to activate him. Perez will return directly to the closer's role, and if there's a save situation tonight, he's coming in to pitch. Vinnie Pestano, who has held down the role during Perez's absence, will return to his customary 8th inning role, Smith to the 7th inning, etc. Perez's activation should strengthen the bullpen, assuming that Perez himself is effective again.

T.J. House, who was up in case the Indians needed a longman, will go back to Columbus still without having made a major-league appearance. He's not really ready for the majors yet, and when he is ready, should be a starter, not a reliever.

The Indians found a taker for John McDonald rather quickly, dealing him to Philadelphia only a day after they designated him for assignment. I'm not sure what Philadelphia's roster situation is, but if he's used as a late-inning defensive replacement, then that will be fine. If they're thinking of starting him somewhere a couple times a week, then that isn't so fine.

I'll be adding the 25-man/40-man rosters soon.
